On March 10, 1966, The Grand set the stage for their royal wedding; a day forever intertwined with our rich heritage. We commemorate this remarkable milestone with an afternoon inspired by elegance, tradition and a touch of royal allure.
On 25 and 26 April, just ahead of King’s Day, we open the doors of our iconic Council Chamber, the very room where the royal couple exchanged their vows, for a festive afternoon where history and refinement meet. Enjoy a classic English afternoon tea featuring delicate sandwiches, freshly baked scones, refined pastries and a carefully curated selection of teas, all served in a setting steeped in grandeur and filled with memories.
During this special afternoon, three distinguished experts will take you back in time as they share their insights into this memorable royal wedding day. Stories will unfold about the ceremony itself, royal etiquette, the significance of the jewels and clothes worn, and the flowers that adorned the occasion. Royalty expert Rick Evers will open the event with an inspiring presentation on the historical context and key moments of the day. Next, jewelry historian Martijn Akkerman, famous from the Dutch TV program, “Tussen Kunst en Kitsch”, will offer a fascinating look into the royal jewels and the stories behind these iconic pieces. Finally, fashion journalist Kim Querfurth, who recently published her own book on Queen Máxima’s style, will discuss the influence of the bridal fashion and the style choices that made this wedding so memorable. Together, they give the Royal Afternoon Tea an extra dimension in which flavour and history blend seamlessly.
